All our hats are made to order and your hat will be like no other in the world. A custom-fit hat will be more comfortable and will stay in place better than a mass-produced hat. Plus, you can customize the shape, crown height, brim width, trim, stitching, and overall look as much as you desire. We love hats and take the time to give your hat the attention it deserves.

Base hat price 50% beaver / 50% rabbit and European hare: $485
Base hat price 100% pure beaver: $725
Base hat price 100% pure beaver belly fur: $875
*Pure beaver is also available in natural color, which contains no dyes or bleach; color varies with each pelt

STYLES

The style of your hat should reflect a combination of intended use, your head size and face shape, and your personal preference. We can shape your hat in any of the standard Western styles, create variations of these styles, or help you envision something entirely different. Please consult with us if you don’t know where to begin.

COLORS & felt types

We make all of our hats from felted fur that’s either a 50/50 combination of beaver and rabbit or 100% beaver. The 50/50 hats offer a nice compromise between durability and price. The 100% beaver felt hats are premium quality, provide the greatest weather resistance, can be reshaped indefinitely, and offer the longest lifespan. All our hats are made in the standard Western weight. If you would prefer a lighter, dress weight hat, just let us know.

The color chart here shows options for both our 50/50 rabbit/beaver hats and our 100% beaver felt hats. Additionally, our 100% beaver hats come in natural, reflecting the natural color of the pelt (and a color which we can’t control).

OPTIONS

All our hats include a satin silk liner, simple bow hat band, and a roan leather sweatband. This leather is soft and supple, and will quickly conform to your head for maximum comfort.

Beyond these standard elements, you can customize your hat with special hatbands, personalization on the sweatband, brim tape, distressing, and more. Just let us know what you have in mind.

SIZING

Correct sizing of your hat is key to a comfortable fit. To get started, use a flexible measuring tape to measure around your head (it’s easiest with a helper). Generally, you’ll want to place the tape about one finger width above the top of your ears and eyebrows. If you prefer to wear your hat farther up on your forehead, adjust the tape accordingly. Note the measurement to the nearest one-eighth inch. If you’re between sizes, choose the larger measurement.

Alternatively, we can send you a simple device to help determine your head size. In our discussion with you, we’ll also want to understand your head shape (typically round, oval, or long oval).
